BEADY WENDY NEWSLETTER

Beady Wendy Newsletter

January, 2011

Happy New Year to everyone!  I know, it’s a little late, but better late than never.  I’m still full from all the Christmas goodies we ate!  It’s time to feast my eyes on beads instead of food.

I’ve been playing with a new bead press courtesy of my friend, Peter Gibson.   He makes amazing tools.  He sent me a lovely square sided lentil press and it’s terrific.  There is a bit of a learning curve but it’s coming along nicely.

red earrings 2.jpgI’ve given up going to the Red Hill Market.  Sad, I know.  However, it’s an hour and half by car each way.  It is a tremendous market, no doubt.  If I lived closer it would be a no-brainer.  So, now I’m looking to replace that market with something else.  There will always be Lardner Park but that’s only held 4 times a year.  I’ll keep you posted when I find the next good one.

You can still find my finished work at The Barn on Jacksons, Jindivick.  Thanks to Bonnie Medley for her support.  I’ve started adding things to www.madeit.com.au and www.craftumi.com.au .  If you haven’t run across these web sites have a look.  It’s all Aussie!

And, there’s always the web site http://www.beadywendy.com.au .  There’s free shipping on orders over $20 to any Beady Wendy member in Australia.  Sign up, it’s free!  Speaking of the website, there are a few changes coming.  Nothing major, just a little tweeking.

I’ll be adding my finished jewellery to a new store in Traralgon.  Stop by Scrapbook Sinners, Shop 2, 72-74 Argyle Street, Traralgon.  Leonie and I are planning on offering some beading classes in the future.

As part of Creative Gippslandin May, I’ll be offering classes through the Warragul Lapidary Clubin Warragul at Logan Park.  I’ve come up with a pattern to embellish a lampwork bead and create a bracelet.  In fact, the project was recently featured in Australian Beading Magazine.  The cost of the class is $50 plus $30 for the beads.  Or, you can bring your own mix of seed beads and a lampwork bead if you wish.  Bead caps, clasps, thread, etc. will be available to purchase at the class.  If you’re interested in taking a class, email me.  I’m also taking names or expressions of interest for anyone wishing to learn glass bead making.  Classes will be one on one and offered at the Warragul Lapidary Club.  I expect to start classes in August or September.  Send me an email to register interest for any class at:  classes@beadywendy.com.au

beige-focal-2-web.jpgDuring all this, my brain is percolating, working out the new Convergence III entry.  It’s a tough one and it is stretching my lampworking skills.  I’ll post my entry once I’ve nailed it. You can follow what’s happening on my  Facebook page.

Well, that’s about all the news that’s fit to tell.  I wish everyone all the best in the coming year.  It’s already been a challenge for many Aussies.

Happy Beading!

Cheers,

Wendy Hitchins

BEADY WENDY NEWSLETTER

July, 2010

The past few months have been very busy.  I entered the juried exhibit of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers in the United States and my entry was selected.  This is a huge honour!  The challenge was to make a piece of jewellery (including the beads) for afrida3.jpg famous person past, present or pretend.  Sounds easy but it`s not!  After a lot of deliberation I chose to create a necklace for Mexican/American Artist Frida Kahlo.  She was a lady ahead of her time and was famous for her fabulous flair and larger than life charisma.   Frida is shown here!  She`ll be on tour in the States for the next few months and then auctioned with proceeds to the ISGB.

Closer to home – Sunday, July 18th is the next Craft Markets Australia at Lardner Park, Warragul.  I will be demonstrating how I make my beads and selling some beads and finished work.  Craft Markets Australia has tightened up their requirements to sell at all their markets.  They are ensuring all the work is made by the stall holder and not mass-produced.  This is reassuring for people like me who cannot offer deep discount pricing on their one-of-a-kind work.  Always remember, if it`s too cheap, it`s not hand-made!

Can`t get to Lardner Park?  My work is always for sale at The Barn on Jacksons, Jindivick.  Stop by and have a browse and enjoy a terrific lunch and the outstanding views.  The Barn on Jacksons 5628 5494 .

I was featured in the last issue of Gippsland Country Life Magazine.  If you haven`t seen this new glossy magazine about the Gippsland region, pick it up at the newsagents.  Better yet, subscribe!  It`s a great magazine all about Gippsland and the quality is outstanding.  Here`s a link for the magazine: http://www.clpublishing.com.au/.

And..... Frida gets a mention in another new publication – Don`t Forget the Milk Gippsland.  Here`s a link: http://www.themilkmag.com.

This month`s feature beads are shown here.  Check out shop-online/beads for ordering instructions.
